Jim Theodoras is Senior Director of Technical Marketing at ADVA Optical Networking, where he actively promotes the company’s portfolio of Optical+Ethernet transport products and related technologies. Jim has more than 25 years of industry experience in electronics and optics, spanning a wide range of diverse topics.
Prior to ADVA Optical Networking, Jim was Senior Hardware Manager and Technical Leader at Cisco Systems, where he managed Ethernet switch development on the Catalyst series product. At Cisco, Jim worked on optical multi-service, switching and transport products and related technologies, and was fortunate to participate in the “pluggable optics” revolution. Prior to acquisition by Cisco, Jim worked at Monterey Networks and was responsible for optics and 10G hardware development. Jim also worked at Alcatel Networks USA on DWDM long-haul transport systems, IMRA America on a wide range of research topics from automotive LIDAR to femtosecond fiber lasers and at Texas Instruments’ Defense unit.
Jim is a past President of the Ethernet Alliance and was optical liaison editor for IEEE Communication Magazine from 2006-2010. Jim holds 16 patents in the fields of telecommunications, is a frequent contributor to industry publications, presenter at international conferences and an active contributor to the Blogosphere.
