Kamal's election comes at an important inflection point of the standards development as the first Energy Efficient Ethernet (EEE) products based upon the IEEE P802.3az Task Force work are nearing completion of development.
The Ethernet community has gathered around the development of a new standard that provides significant power savings through the implementation of Low-Power Idle (LPI) modes for a wide range of Ethernet transceivers. First drafted in 2007, the Energy Efficient Ethernet standard has been the focus of intense collaboration by the IEEE P802.3az Task Force and is now coming to final ballot during the third quarter of 2010.
Kamal Dalmia also serves as vice president of sales and marketing at Aquantia and has extensive experience in the high tech industry, spanning 3 generations of Ethernet products. Prior to joining Aquantia, Kamal served in the roles of vice president of marketing at Teranetics and director of marketing at Marvell.
The Energy Efficient Ethernet Subcommittee is looking forward to a lot of activity both this year and next to support the IEEE 802.3az work. The subcommittee is also collaborating closely with the Ethernet in the Data Center and 10GBASE-T Subcommittees to expand the the scope of their efforts beyond IEEE 802.3az. More information regarding the announcement can be found here.
The Higher Speed Ethernet (HSE) subcommittee has been extremely busy. In addition to planning for a 40 Gigabit Ethernet (40 GbE) and 100 Gigabit Ethernet (100 GbE) interoperability event that will take place in September, the subcommittee also has plans underway for a presence at SC10 and has released updated revisions of numerous documents.
The deadline for participation in the September interoperability event has passed, but stay tuned for information regarding future interoperability events.
The updated set of collateral describes the current status of Higher Speed Ethernet in conjunction with the ratification of IEEE Std. 802.3ba-2010. FAQs can be found here. For the updated white papers including: the Road to 100G, 40 Gigabit Ethernet and 100 Gigabit Ethernet Technology Overview, CEI-28G: Paving the Way for 100 Gigabit, and Overview of Requirements and Applications for 40 Gigabit and 100 Gigabit Ethernet, go to this page and presentations can be found here.

Asia Communications and Photonics Conference and Exhibition 2010Ethernet Alliance Sponsoring an Industry Forum
The Ethernet Alliance is sponsoring a half-day Industry Forum focused on Ethernet PON and its recent advances & penetration into Carrier Ethernet, MSOs and wireless backhaul.
This forum will bring industry experts to incite discussions regarding the needs, applications, adoption and deployment of the current and next-generation PON technologies, as it is well known that PON provides tremendous data bandwidth, better reach and require much less equipments in the access networks. Potential topics will focus on broadband access and service delivery architecture, technologies, solutions and applications.
Call for Speakers is Now Open Frank Chang, Ethernet Alliance 10G EPON subcommittee chair, of Vitesse and Blaine Kohl of the Ethernet Alliance are coordinating the agenda and speakers. If you have interest in speaking at the Forum, please communicate your interest to admin@ethernetalliance.org.
Linley Tech Processor Conference: September 27-28, 2010
