| Ethernet Alliance® Members Planning More Interoperability Demonstrations of Backplane Ethernet |
Mountain View, CA – May 06, 2008 – The Ethernet Alliance members AMCC, NetLogic Microsystems, and Vitesse successfully conducted multi-vendor interoperability testing of 10GBASE-KR backplane interfaces. The testing was held April 7-11 at the University of New Hampshire Interoperability Lab (UNH-IOL) and demonstrated multiple physical layer (PHY) integrated circuits (IC) interoperating. The Ethernet Alliance backplane subcommittee has initiated the development of test methodologies and guidelines to help qualify compliance with IEEE Std. 802.3ap™-2007, and plans to develop a complete interoperability reference manual to assist IC, backplane and equipment vendors who are adopting backplane Ethernet. The interoperability test suites will be made available via the UNH-IOL’s Backplane Ethernet Consortium. The Backplane Ethernet subcommittee plans to hold a second plugfest in 2008 to further demonstrate interoperability of 10GBASE-KX4 and 1000BASE-KX backplane interfaces as well as auto-negotiation between 10 Gigabit Ethernet and 1 Gigabit Ethernet across backplanes. More detailed information on this plugfest will be available in the coming months.
